Columbus Businesses Talk About Challenges-Doing Business in India

MES

On March 3, 2017, MES President Hiten Shah was invited to speak at the Insight into India: Update on New Legal Developments + Business Opportunities event organized by Kegler Brown.  Hiten shared the stage with Joe Soldano, Director of Business Development at Worthington Energy Innovations and global business attorney and Kegler Brown’s Asia-Pacific Team Leader, Vinita Bahri-Mehra. The objective of the event was to offer interested companies overview of the business landscape in India, the opportunities available for U.S. companies and answering questions about new developments in India.

Hiten talked about the challenges MES encountered in establishing a multi-regional operation footprint in India. However, since MES does business across Asia, he talked about doing business in India in a comparative matter.  He touched upon the evolution of the Rupee in the past decade and what it means for import/export, on the relevance of the Ease of Doing Business and corruption indicators and on the success and short comings of the Make in India Program.

He highlighted the fact that India is an excellent market as well as source of good engineering suppliers but infrastructure and regulations are quite tedious. All participants in India market should get good counsel and have good people on the ground to help navigate and reap the benefits of the growing market.
