2018 Ohio SHRM Employment Law + Legislative Conference
MES CPO Heena Shah joined the panel discussion and gave a speech of “Hiring a Global Workforce – Issues Affecting U.S. Immigration” on May 16th, 2018, invited by the Ohio SHRM State Council. More than 200 HR professionals from Ohio and other regions attended the conference. During the meeting, the council gave an overview of current law and statistics related to immigration in Ohio; updated attendees on SHRM’s position on immigration reform and current efforts underway in Congress; and gave attendees a real-world perspective from a business owner on the importance of immigration and resolving issues to address future workforce needs. As an experienced HR professional, Heena has played a key role in MES, Inc. on global talent recruiting. The Ohio SHRM State Council invited Heena to talk about her experience using immigration to find the right skilled workforce as an Ohio employer.  “Since MES is a global resourcing and supply chain management service provider, it is much more than nice to have people with multicultural education and background,” Heena said. “In order to provide top quality products and services in every location, qualified candidates also need to have experience with off-shore customers,” she added. Being diversity is important and most of the time, it is pricey as well. At the end of the speech, Heena talked about the pros and cons of current immigration policies and how HR professionals should utilize these policies legally and efficiently for the sake of the interests of the company.
