MES

MES is always looking to reduce prices, lead times and hedge risks in the supply chain for the benefit of our clients. MES is currently serving our Mexico based clients using two ports: Manzanillo and Lazaro Cardenas, two of the largest commercial ports in the country.

Our Mexican team has visited last week the Port of Lazaro Cardenas to witness the infrastructure metamorphosis of the port which is expanding is size, capacity and security due to a massive investment program in the maritime commercial operations.

The volume of imports through the Mexican ports has increased exponentially due to NAFTA and the related boom in manufacturing in Mexico. In particular, the development of the automotive cluster in the center of the country, benefited Lazaro Cardenas and propelled it at the top of commercial ports in Mexico. Honda, Toyota, Ford and GMC use this port to move an impressive number of vehicles every year. The Mexican government has invested so far over 5 billion USD in significant infrastructure expansion of the terminals, road and rail connections but also to improve security. Other 3 billion are allocated for the next 3 years in sight of the ratification of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) which is expected to open North America to more imports from Asia-Pacific area. Lazaro Cardenas is one of the main beneficiaries of these investments.

In 2015 Lazaro Cardenas has seen an increase of 6% in the traffic of TEUs compared to 2014 and 33% compared to 2010.
