Impeller Blade Casting

New Application: Impeller Blade Casting

MES Inc. was proud to deliver, this past quarter, a one of a kind impeller blade castings for axial fans. Material was carefully chosen by the customer because of excellent strength properties at elevated temperatures. Aluminum C355: Offers excellent castability, pressure tightness and resistance to hot cracking. Has optimal fluidity and solidification shrinkage tendencies. Allows for excellent welding strengths (although in the specific case of this application did not allow any welding). Polished finishes can be worthy of excellent engineered components which customers appreciate. These blades were designed and manufactured for axial fans with end application in underground and above-ground mining and power industries. Material was cast using high vacuum melting casting furnace and high tilt automatic equipment. All parts were then X-ray tested per ASTM E155 with expectation to meet Level 2 near the shank of the blade and Level 4 in other areas. Parts also went through machining […]

China Is Cracking Down on Environmentally Unfriendly Factories

Supply chains world-wide have been disrupted as the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), eager to meet air quality targets and reduce water and soil contamination, started to shut down thousands of factories in China. The shut downs (whether complete or temporary) are taking a toll on multiple industries; frontrunners: automotive and electronic components (finished and semi-finished metal components, plastic and rubber injection molding), chemical and textiles. Tier 1,2, and 3 suppliers are being affected equally. Analysts are also debating the introduction by the end of the year of an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) similar to that in the European Union where companies under the carbon pollution cap will be able sell credits to those going over the cap. No matter what the form of the ETS will be, smaller companies will be at a net disadvantage. Not being able to invest in new and more efficient equipment with the […]

MES Opens Warehouse in Poland

After MES Inc. opened, a European office in Poland, earlier this year, we are proud to announce that we have also set up a warehouse in Lubuskie province (City of Swiebodzin – Zielona Gora), near the crossing of routes S3 and the A2 motorway. Storage, repackaging, cross docking, order picking, quality control and labeling, are some of the services that will be performed in this 32,000 sq. ft. facility. Located in the Western part of Poland, 80 km from the border with Germany, both the office and the warehouse are strategically positioned to serve the European lighting, automotive, industrial machinery manufacturing, heavy and agricultural machines, electronics and medical industries. The choice of opening operations in Poland is related to its strategic position in Europe. Located at the crossroads of European trade and transport routes, Poland is one of the top prospective location for foreign investors (not only in the CEE […]

Valve + Coupler + Actuator

Following the acquisition, last year, of the valves and instruments company Salcon, MES Inc. become a supplier of Emerson Automation Solutions based in Mansfield, OH. MES has an outstanding record with Emerson in providing primarily Fluid Control Products (mainly valves) and was able to assist with the simplification of the otherwise complicated and internationally diverse acquisition process of a set of valves/couples/actuators for a plastics plant in the Sultanate of Oman. In this assembly, the valve controls the flow, the actuator controls the internal components of the valve and the coupler connects these two components to bear the weight of the actuator on the valve. The Emerson actuators had to be matched with couplers sourced in the UK from QK quickits, while the ball valves originated in Italy from RMT Valvomeccanica. The complexity of the project was accentuated by the unusual size of the components. The bolt circle diameter of […]

Aluminum – Commodity Forecast – 2017-2018

This document provides recent and up-to-date information on factors affecting the price of aluminum on the global market, examines production, demand, trade and trade policy as well as competitiveness factors and gives an idea on what we can expect for the Q4 of 2017 and beyond. Aluminum has been lately at the center of the U.S. policy. The U.S. filed a complaint with the WTO (World Trade Organization) accusing Chinese subsidies to domestic aluminum producers of suppressing global prices of the metal. It was followed by an investigation on the impact of imported aluminum (and steel) as a national security threat. The initiative, has the potential to translate into quotas or tariffs, or both, for imported aluminum which will impact negatively many U.S. industries that have nothing to do with national security. The frontrunners being automotive, the industrial machinery manufacturing, construction, and packaging industries. The aluminum prices decreased significantly in […]
