MES Mexican team has visited the Port of Lazaro Cardenas

MES is always looking to reduce prices, lead times and hedge risks in the supply chain for the benefit of our clients. MES is currently serving our Mexico based clients using two ports: Manzanillo and Lazaro Cardenas, two of the largest commercial ports in the country. Our Mexican team has visited last week the Port of Lazaro Cardenas to witness the infrastructure metamorphosis of the port which is expanding is size, capacity and security due to a massive investment program in the maritime commercial operations. The volume of imports through the Mexican ports has increased exponentially due to NAFTA and the related boom in manufacturing in Mexico. In particular, the development of the automotive cluster in the center of the country, benefited Lazaro Cardenas and propelled it at the top of commercial ports in Mexico. Hiten Shah met with India Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley in New York

MES President and CEO, Hiten Shah was recently invited to a private cocktail event in New York with India Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley. FM’s speech was short about the optimism surrounding India’s economic growth. He emphasized the investments being made in infrastructure and technology. He also emphasized and discussed the financial reforms for tax changes, attracting foreign direct investments. One of the biggest positive is the attempt to create “a single window” clearing agent for foreign NRI’s, investors and MNC’s to expedite and streamline the registration of businesses. Highlight continues to be the “Made in India” initiative which will continue to make Indian manufacturers efficient and productive in making them competitive with the Chinese and other manufacturers. FM also reacted favorably to Mr. Shah’s question regarding to small businesses investments in India. The Impact of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

MES publishes today the second research in the White Paper Series, an initiative of the Business Development Department meant to bring insightful industry analysis to our stakeholders. The objective was to assess how and to what extent the Trans-Pacific Partnership will affect the automotive, lighting, heavy  machinery and energy equipment industries, the main industries MES serves.  We took a step back to look at the intricacies of the global trade agreements, the trade indicators such as tariffs, number of days and documents needed to import and export, container costs, rules of origin compared to NAFTA, trade surplus and deficits of the 12 countries involved etc. The analysis emphasized the position of the United States, identifies winners and losers and draws conclusions on what we can expect moving forward.
