Some Takeaways from Uber’s Recent Scandal

UBER;MES

MES President and CEO, Hiten Shah, read an article in Fortune last week about Kalanick and discussed about the disruptive model in a meeting. Couple of days later, we heard about Uber releasing a report on its diversity, inclusion, and bias practices. The report was written by former U.S. Attorney General (the lead lawyer for the U.S. Government), Eric Holder.

The report concludes an investigation conducted by Holder, following allegations of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation from Susan Fowler, a former engineer at Uber.

The report is a scathing criticism of virtually every aspect of how Uber leads and manages its personnel.

It is sad to know such an egregious and discriminating behavior by the top executives, a cutting-edge company like Uber reprimanding their associates for failure when the whole model which company is built upon is unproven. Also, it is hard to believe how strong of an ego Kalanick and his top brass had to blatantly ignore basic HR laws.

Key question then is whether Uber can have the direction and leadership to continue its growth and disruptive model. Time will tell what shape Uber will take in future.
